Benchmark Advance and Benchmark Adelante are built on the key foundational principles of dual language education.

Parallel Programs Support the Pillars of Dual Language Education

Standards-based instruction

integrated within aligned units and lesson structures

Parity of resources

in digital and print to address key differences in languages and authentic literature

Powerful technology

with multisensory experiences, eAssessment, and a multilingual glossary

Dual language support

with customized language and resource allocation training

Sociocultural development

so all students feel comfortable, confident, and eager to learn

Home–school connections

to celebrate diversity and empower parents to support their children’s learning

Parallel Program Alignment

Benchmark Advance and Adelante were specifically designed to be aligned across programs as well.

Parallel text sets by unit build knowledge in both languages and include authentic literature.

When Spanish and English reading programs are aligned so selections, skills, strategies, and standards work together, it enables teachers to promote a path to biliteracy for students.”

Sample Dual Language Models

Option 1: Alternating Language by Unit and Instructional Setting: Whole Group and Small Group

Whole-group instruction is taught in one language while small-group instruction is taught in the other. The language used to teach each instructional setting alternates in every other unit.

Option 2: Alternating Language by Texts Within Units

Each 3-week unit has 4 texts in Spanish and in English. The texts can be used to accommodate a 50/50 dual language model.

WEEK 1

One short text in Spanish and one short text in English

WEEK 2 & WEEK 3

One extended text in Spanish and one extended text in English
